Open Weekend 2021 - Cumberland Cup

The 2021 Builth Wells Golf Club Open Weekend began with the Cumberland Cup Team of Four competition; a fantastic 46 teams took part with 28 different golf clubs represented.

Scoring on the day was outstanding (please see full results below), the highlight/s though were the 2 holes in one! Jonathon White (Monmouthshire Golf Club) got a hole in one on the 240 yard, par 3, 7th hole and Eileen Owen (Kings Norton Golf Club) with a hole in one on the 147 yard, par 3, 11th hole.

Ladies Seniors Open - Monday 9th August 2021

31 ladies entered the 2021 Seniors Open with 7 clubs represented from across the UK. Scoring was very close apart from one fantastic score of 45 points from Chris Sutton (Knighton), well done Chris, a new handicap for you I’m sure!!

Wales Golf update Monday 9th August 2021

Wales moves into Alert Level 0

Wales moved to alert level zero at 6 am on 7 August, following the latest review of the coronavirus regulations in Wales.

At alert level zero:

• There will be no legal limits on the number of people who can meet, including in private homes, public places or at events

• Face coverings will not be a legal requirement in hospitality settings where food and drink is served, but will continue to be required in most indoor public places such as professional shops, locker rooms, public transport.

• 7 August (from 00.01am), adults who are fully vaccinated and children and young people under 18, will no longer need to isolate if they are identified as close contacts of someone who has coronavirus.

• Everyone must continue to isolate for 10 days if they have Covid-19 symptoms or if they have a positive test result.

• The changing rooms are now fully operational including showers.

• Please continue to wash and sanitise hands; sanitiser is available in various areas of the golf club.

Wales Golf update Friday 16th July

An update to Wales Golf and Golf Industry Guidelines

Following the First Minister's announcement on 14th July 2021, Wales will be moving fully into Alert Level 1 COVID-19 restrictions and will also take its first steps into Alert Level Zero from Saturday 17th July. We, therefore, are now in a position to ease the Wales Golf guidance for clubs in Wales.

Please note, clubs MUST conduct a thorough risk assessment when implementing any changes (see below), and should consult with their health & safety advisor and insurance provider when making any changes.

The following changes will be made from Saturday 17th July:

• Scoring in Stroke Play (Rule 3.3b) – the provisions of Rule 3.3b apply where the player’s score is kept on his or her scorecard by a marker. Certification of the scorecard by the marker and by the player should occur, as per the guidelines of Rule 3.3b(2).

• Flagsticks – There will no longer be a requirement to leave the flagstick in the hole at all times.

• Hole, and Definition of Holed – Coronavirus related changes to the definition of a hole and when the ball is holed are now removed.

• Rakes – Preferred lies in bunkers will no longer be permissible, and bunkers should no longer be made ground under repair, so it is recommended that rakes are returned to the course.

• On-Course Furnishings – Course furnishings such as ball washers, benches, bins etc. can be in use on the course.

• Social Distancing – The regulations will no longer give particular prominence to 2-metre physical distancing outdoors.

Shared use of buggies
The current advice from Welsh Government and Public Health Wales is that the regulations will no longer give particular prominence to 2-metre physical distancing (outdoors only) at Alert Level Zero.

If club’s wish to allow shared buggy use, a risk assessment process will need to take place. Mitigating circumstances could include a Perspex screen, and/or driver and passenger remaining in the same place throughout the round of golf. All buggies should be thoroughly sanitised before and after each use.

An excellent entry for the 2021 Seniors Open; 116 players took part with the format of stableford, 95% handicap allowance playing from yellow tees.

Senior Men's Pairs Open - Monday 7th June 2021

The Senior Men’s 4 ball better ball Open took place on Monday 7th June 2021. Weather conditions were lovely which enabled scoring to be very good.

49 pairs entered the open event, with clubs represented such as Pennard, Hale, Brecon, Ludlow, Worcester G&CC, Neath, Wernddu to name but a few.

The golf course was in superb condition with the greens rolling very smooth and at a good pace.

The Spring Open Weekend took place over the weekend of 29th - 31st May 2021; the golf course was in fantastic condition, the weather conditions were superb, all of which made for an excellent weekend’s golf. 100 plus players per day took part with the competition formats being Saturday - 4 ball better ball (men and ladies), Sunday - Team of four Texas Scramble, Monday - Team of three stableford.

Wales Golf update - Monday 17th May 2021

From Monday 17th May, Wales will move into an alert level 2.

This means that from Monday, 

• Indoor hospitality can re-open – 6 people from up to 6 households (not including children under 11) can meet indoors. Full Hospitality guidance can be found here.

• Up to 30 people can take part in organised indoor activities and up to 50 people in organised outdoor activities. This includes wedding receptions and wakes.

• Changing Rooms are not currently listed as businesses and services which need to be closed. However, advice is, where possible, the use of changing rooms should be avoided.
